- Statistical comparison was carried out between relevant patient demographic details and risk factors for infection. Twenty cases were excluded from analysis due to incomplete medical records. With regards to analysed factors, younger age as well as longer operation times were identified as statistically significant risk factors for infection. Sex, presence of diabetes mellitus, active malignancy and serum albumin (obtained from pre-operative liver function tests) were not correlated with infection risk
